At the heart of the IB diploma program is the CAS core component. CAS stands for creativity, activity, and service. Students must engage in experiences of their choosing that reflect those aforementioned strands. Some of the objectives that students meet by participating in CAS are the following; identifying personal strengths or areas to grow, taking on new challenges and developing new skills, showing commitment and perseverance, and engaging with issues of global significance.
In the first year of the diploma program CAS students in Grade 11 must decide on a project to complete. Projects are a series of CAS experiences that reflect one or a combination of strands mentioned above and should be substantial enough to take at least one month to organise and to participate in and complete with making reflections.
Some examples of projects we have had here in the past at ASV are the following; A series of local beach cleanings. Organizing and planting a school garden. Organizing a chess club for middle school students. Organizing a non perishable food collection to be delivered multiple times throughout the year to a local food bank. Organizing a school mural painting. Making and selling bracelets to support a NGO that focuses on cleaning plastics from the oceans. Playing on a school or a local sports team.
This special CAS Project site will profile periodically various CAS projects so the ASV community can learn more about them and make contributions to them when the project involves fund raising. We invite you to explore the CAS projects profiled here on this site and we invite you to contact the student leaders should you have questions or wish to contribute.
Sincerely,
